Decrease in Crime Rates Reported by North Charleston Police Department

The North Charleston Police Department has released data showing a decrease in both violent and non-violent crimes within the city. In the first four months of 2024, violent crimes decreased by 10%. While the number of murders saw a slight increase, aggravated assaults decreased by 13%. Aggravated assaults involving firearms also decreased by 4%. Rapes decreased by a significant 35%.

However, there was a rise in robberies by 16%, with business robberies increasing by 60% and robberies of persons by 11%. The department highlighted an increase of 2% in gun arrests, emphasizing efforts against illegally carried firearms.

On the non-violent crime side, there was an 8% decrease overall, with burglaries down 11% and business burglaries down 40%. DUI arrests saw a notable 41% increase, and narcotics arrests increased by 11%.

The North Charleston Police Department expressed its commitment to maintaining public safety and working tirelessly to ensure peace in the city.
