(Washington D.C.) – In a landmark move to address long-standing challenges faced by military personnel and their families, a panel of House lawmakers, including Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC-01), has unveiled a comprehensive set of recommendations aimed at significantly enhancing the quality of life for service members. The panel's report includes over 30 proposals intended to be incorporated into the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for 2025.

Representing South Carolina's First Congressional District, which includes Joint Base Charleston and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, Rep. Mace expressed the importance of these recommendations to her constituents. She emphasized the direct impact these policies would have on the military families in her district. "South Carolina's First Congressional District is home to Joint Base Charleston and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, and therefore, these recommendations hit close to home. These are more than just policies; they directly affect our constituents—family, friends, and neighbors—who have courageously served our nation,” said Rep. Mace.

The report outlines various key recommendations, including a 15% pay raise for junior enlisted service members, the restoration of the basic allowance for housing to cover 100% of estimated costs, and the expansion of childcare services to eliminate waitlists. Additionally, the recommendations focus on improving access to healthcare specialists by eliminating unnecessary referral requirements and enhancing support for military families through extended access to childcare programs during job searches.

Rep. Mace highlighted the significance of these proposals by pointing out the limited number of military bases in South Carolina and the critical need to prioritize the well-being of servicemembers and their families. “With only six military bases in all of South Carolina, and two in our district alone, ensuring the well-being of our servicemembers and their families is paramount. This 60-page report underscores a fundamental failure of the federal government: to adequately support those who risk everything for us. We look forward to authorizing the 2025 NDAA with each of these recommendations included."
